A Message from Your Superintendent

Good afternoon Plainedge Families. This is Ed Salina, your Superintendent of Schools. I want to once again thank everyone for the outpouring of support during this very challenging time. We continue to work together to support our students and staff as we take the time to process this heartbreaking loss.

The hours of operation for the Plainedge High School Crisis Center today, Wednesday, January 3rd will be until 8 PM tonight. Any interested community members, staff members, or students can enter at the Main Entrance at Plainedge High School. High School Athletic coaches and club advisors with scheduled activities are being encouraged to meet with their teams and/or clubs in the after-school hours in the coming days where possible. There will be no sporting events scheduled until next week. Until further notice, high school students are not permitted to leave for lunch and free periods. 

Again, I thank you all for everything you’ve done to support our children during this difficult time. Thank you.

Good afternoon Plainedge Families. This is Ed Salina, your Superintendent of Schools. I want to thank everyone for the outpouring of support in the wake of this tragic incident where we lost High School Senior, Dylan Nuccio this morning. We are all working together to support our students and staff as we take the time to process this heartbreaking loss.

The school district has established a crisis center at Plainedge High School this afternoon and evening for any staff, student, or community member who might need support. The Plainedge High School Crisis Center will have counselors from our own Plainedge Mental Health Support Team available to meet with any community member who would like to receive support. The hours of operation for the Plainedge High School Crisis Center will be from 2 PM – 8 PM and later if needed. Any interested community members, staff members, or students can enter by the Main Entrance at Plainedge High School. Athletic coaches and club advisors with scheduled activities are being encouraged to meet with their teams and/or clubs in the after-school hours in the coming days where possible. Again, I thank you all for everything you’ve done to support our children during this difficult time of need in our community.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Nuccio family and friends and the entire Plainedge Community during this unimaginable tragedy. Thank you.

A Message from Your Superintendent – Sad News Regarding a Student Tragedy (Sent on Tuesday, January 2, 2024)

Dear Plainedge Family,

It is with deep sadness that we inform you about a tragic loss to our school community today. Earlier this morning, High School Senior, Dylan Nuccio, was involved in a motor vehicle accident where he lost his life. This loss is sure to raise many emotions, concerns, and questions for our entire school community, especially our staff and students.

Plainedge High School has already mobilized our Crisis Intervention Team made up of mental health support professionals trained to help with the needs of students, parents, and school personnel at difficult times such as this. We have counselors available for any student or staff member who may need support or any type of assistance surrounding this loss.

We encourage you, as parents, to also feel free to use our resources. Please contact the High School Guidance Department with any requests for support you may require. High School students are not permitted to leave for lunch until further notice.

We are deeply saddened by this loss to our school community and will make every effort to support our staff, students, and families. The health and safety of our children and staff is always our top priority.  As more information becomes available, we will provide the Plainedge Community with updates.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Nuccio family and friends and the entire Plainedge Community during this very difficult time.
