Power To Learn, the New York Knicks and the New York Liberty want to
support our literacy goals and encourage Eastplain third graders to
read! The “Knicks
Read to Achieve @ powertolearn.com” program is designed to
help young people develop a life long love of reading through the use of
incentives to encourage students to reach their reading potential.
Our third grade Read to Achieve kick-off assembly, featured below, began with the grade gathering in the gym and taking turns shooting baskets by class. Each time the students shot, they screamed out the name of a book they love. Students kept score regarding how many books were shared and how many baskets were scored. Then students had an opportunity to preview the Read to Achieve link at powertolearn.com. Later in the week students had a chance to use the Video Book and Postcard links while using the laptops in their classrooms. The students are thrilled to be able to read books along with the Knicks, the Liberty, and Spike Lee. Thanks
Cablevision for organizing this wonderful program and encouraging our
students to read. |
