Good Readers

Good Readers:    

* Read for meaning

* Integrate all three sources of information

    (meaning, semantics, and grapho-phonics)

* Set goals for their reading in terms of length, variety and  time

* Read often and for a variety of purposes

* Use a full range of strategies to help them understand a  text

* Are flexible in their use of strategies such as predicting and monitoring

  for meaning

* Use background experiences and prior knowledge to predict and

  confirm the text's meaning (schema)

* Evaluate what they've read

* Consider themselves readers

* Enjoy and appreciate reading

* Enjoy discussing and sharing reading experiences
