Spelling Units
At the beginning of each week the children will receive their spelling words. Usually the list will consist of 10 words which follow a spelling pattern or patterns. The children will also receive additional words which pertain to a unit we are learning, words they should know, or frequently misspelled words. At the end of each week the children will receive a spelling test. All tests (with the exception of the first week) will contain 20 words -- the test will contain all the words given that week and various words taken from any of the previously studied units.
For extra credit each week your child can try to locate the spelling words in newspapers, magazines, etc. Each word should only be found once. This can be turned in on Fridays for a sticker. The child who finds the most words that week will also get a small prize.
