Reading Response Homework

A reading response is a way of sharing what you have read. The children’s responses are due every Wednesday.

Any book on your child’s level can be chosen. It is important to find a quiet, comfortable place to read, either on their own or with an adult. Comprehension and retelling are an important part of the reading experience.

In writing your response:

  •     On a sheet of lined paper, write your heading                 (name and date)

  •     Remember to skip lines in your writing.

  •     Write the title of the book (Remember to capitalize and underline the title). Ex: The Snowman Storybook

  •     Write the author and illustrator.

  •     Write at least 5 sentences for your reading response, using one of the leads from the attached sheet.

  •   Make sure your sentences are complete and answer the lead that you have picked.

  •    Then at the bottom of the page, draw a picture to go with your response.

  •   Each time you read a different book or chapter, try to use a different lead.

Happy reading! Always remember to do your best and neatest work! Please make sure to keep this in a safe place so you and your child have something to refer back to.

Below you will find an example of a reading response!

The Snowman Storybook

By – Raymond Briggs

The saddest part of this book was when the snowman melted. At the end of the story, the boy ran outside to see the snowman, but he had melted. The boy loved the snowman and they had fun together. He lost his friend. The boy had created the snowman and now he was gone. It is always sad when a friend goes away.
