unit 1: place value

Students will be able to:

  • understand the place value structure of the base ten number system
    10 units = 1 ten
    10 tens = 1 hundred
    10 hundreds = 1 thousand
    10 thousands = 1 ten thousand
  • read and write whole numbers to 10,000
  • recognize equal representations for numbers up to four digits and generate them by composing and decomposing numbers
    For exampe: 100 tens = 1 thousand
    1 thousand = 100 tens
  • Count and represent coins and dollars using currency symbols ($0.00)
  • Identify odd and even numbers
  • skip count by 1,000's
  • compare and order numbers to 10,000
  • round numbers less than 1,000 to the nearest tens and hundreds
  • find the value or values that will make an open sentence true,
    if it contains < or >
  • use the symbols <, >, = to compare whole numbers
