Dear Parents,
I'm sure by now you are happy to see the snowmen gone on my front page. It has been such a busy time in Room 53 that I haven't had a chance to update my website.
During the month of April the children were busy reading and writing poetry. learning about the water cycle, telling time and learning about different landforms. We have also started book clubs in the classroom. Children get together to discuss their ideas about the many books they've read. They may have spoken to you about forming a book club outside of school. This would be a great summer activity for the kids.
For the month of May we will be working on non-fiction reading and writing. The children will learn how to read a non-fiction book and how to search for information.
Our animal report, which is usually done at home, will be done in class this year. The children will choose an animal that interests them, research that animal and create a book about that animal. You will be invited to a celebration to enjoy their work.
In Math, we are learning how to count money. You can help at home by having your child count change as often as possible.
In Social Studies, we will be learning about the Plainedge community (past and present). If you grew up in Plainedge and would like to share what it was like in the "good old days" write me a note and let me know. We will also be learning about Map Skills and will be creating our own town called "Morrisville".
As you may know we have tadpoles in our class. Hopefully (keep your fingers crossed) they will all grow into frogs. If they do I will be raffling them off (with your written permission, of course).
Have a happy May, enjoy the warmer weather and enjoy the mini-vacation at the end of May.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Morris
