Welcome Aboard

October 8, 2008

Dear Students and Parents,

It's hard to believe that September is behind us. Our class is really looking forward to the Native American program, Journeys, that will be here at the end of the month. The students have created clan names for their tables, and they are working hard to earn table points.

The new math program, Think Math, is teaching the children to think deeply about mathematics and articulate their thinking. I believe that children will reach deeper understandings through this program. I hope that the students are practicing their multiplication facts at home every night because they will need to know them well as we dig even deeper. Our current unit involves multiplying greater numbers by solving simpler problems. It has made me think about math in a different way. It's scary and exciting all at the same time.

In science we just planted our special seeds and will enjoy observing the plant life cycle. Also, be sure to discuss with your child what they are reading in Guided Reading groups as well as their independent reading. In the very near future we will be publishing our very first pieces, Personal Narratives. We look forward to sharing them with you.

If you have any questions or concerns, please call or email me.

Fondly,

Mrs. Molfetta
