History Night

On November 5th the elementary students and their families had an opportunity to "live" on the prairie as this year's History Night focused on "Westward Expansion during the 1800's." Students and their families participated in a variety of hands-on workshops that incorporated learning with fun, while meeting state and national standards! Workshops included making everyday objects such as spatterware crockpots and  poke pouches, while others made and ate Johnny cakes. Others may have actually learned a square dance or two.

All activities simulated life on the prairie as the pioneers traveled westward during the 1800's. The night's success was due in a large part to the enormous amount of PTA and community involvement. Parents from the community worked together to learn and then facilitate the workshops. Special thanks also goes out to Chris Moir and Kathy Beier for coordinating the event.

It was an exciting and educational evening for all.
