Rangers Road Tour Visit |
Cablevision's Power to Learn and the New York Rangers have created the M.V.P. program to partner with us to get students excited about math. Over 50 classes in the tri-state area are participating in this program which involves submitting original math ideas and projects from students which highlight their enthusiasm for mathematics.
For their recent showcase, Mrs. Diamond's class decided upon the theme, "Math where you least expect it!" The students were required to create projects that would be interactive and filled with math problems you would encounter in the real world. Many of the students decided to base their projects on places in New York City. They created replicas and math challenges about the Statue of Liberty, Madison Square Garden, and even how math is used on a street in New York. They showed how math is used at a quiet day on the beach as well as on a roller coaster ride in an amusement park. The students decided to create a hands-on museum in their classroom and invite parents to participate.
Congratulations to Mrs. Diamond' Math students who recently won the M.V.P. Most Spirited Math Class contest for their creativity and enthusiasm for math. For the grand prize, Schwarting's entire fifth grad had a fabulous visit from the NY Rangers Road Tour. During this experience athletic trainers facilitated the students to participate in team and skill building activities centered around hockey.
