Professional Development Opportunities
Courses and ETI (Effective Teaching Institute) Workshops
- A course is created by the instructor and generally runs for 15 hours which is the equivalent to 1 in-service credit.
- ETI Workshops meet for less hours than courses and are generally no less than two hours long. Teachers may bank these credits towards 1 in-service credit.
- Seminars meet for 6 hours.
- New Teacher Institute, open only to our newly hired teachers, are workshops that run for two hours once per month over the course of the year. New Teachers receive a stipend for attending these workshops.
- If you have an idea for a course, workshop or seminar, you must propose the idea on MLP and complete the proposal form there.
Collegial Circles
A Collegial Circle is a group of teachers who gather with a common goal in mind. Most collegial circles meet to have a discussion regarding specific curriculum and develop activities and strategies to enhance curriculum. Circles generally meet for a minimum of 5 hours and a maximum of 30 hours. If you would like to facilitate a Collegial Circle, you must propose the idea on MLP and complete the proposal form there.
Professional Book Talks
A Book Talk consists of a group of teachers who gather to read and discuss a book that is chosen by the facilitator that directly relates to the teaching profession. Book Talks generally meet between 5 hours and 15 hours. If you would like to facilitate a Book Talk, you must propose the idea on MLP and complete the proposal form there.
