5th grade students at John H. West participate in optional, interest-based lunchtime activities called Brown Bags. During a recent session, Mrs. Ziff, the Enrichment teacher asked her students to create a bridge using only newspaper and masking tape.  The bridge had to be tall enough for a container of water to pass under it like a boat, and strong enough to hold the same container of water on top of its frame for at least 3 seconds. The students were split into groups, and each group had 15 minutes to complete their entries. Everyone who participated not only had a qualifying bridge, but even managed to have a good time trying!
