Happy New Year! In the tradition of the New Year, we all make individual New Year’s resolutions which are created to help us to live healthier, happier and more fulfilling lives. In a Peanuts cartoon, Lucy asks Charlie Brown, “Why do you think we were put on earth?” Charlie answers, “To make others happy.” Lucy replies, “I don’t think I’m making anyone happy,” and then adds, “but nobody’s making me very happy either. Somebody’s not doing his job!” Lucy was so sure that happiness was a matter of getting something that she had asked for, not what she could do for others but what others could do for her. She felt shortchanged or cheated and became so preoccupied with what she didn’t have that she couldn’t enjoy what she did have.
As we enter the winter months and the second half of the school year, it is also important to remember that school attendance and promptness are very important for student success. We understand that students get sick and they should obviously stay home for those illnesses. However, please look at the school calendar for the days that schools are in session and plan your family vacations around those dates. Having said that, I would like to share with you the NYS ELA and Math Assessment dates as they follow the spring break this year:
Have a wonderful New Year!
