COVID Update - March 14, 2020

Dear Staff, Parents & Guardians:

The District continues to monitor the most recent developments pertaining to Coronavirus (COVID-19). While at this time, there are no known cases of COVID-19 in any of the schools or facilities of the Plainedge School District, we understand the last several weeks have been extremely challenging and stressful for our community.

Out of an abundance of caution, the decision has been made for the Plainedge Public Schools to be closed on Monday, March 16, 2020 and Tuesday, March 17, 2020 for all students and instructional staff. We hope these two days will serve as a well-needed pause and give the NYS Governor and the NYS Education Department more time to provide school districts with further guidance and clarification on moving forward.

On Monday, March 16, 2020 and Tuesday, March 17, 2020 all district administrators are to report to Central Administration at 10 am to plan for the continuity of instruction in the event of an extended closure. Additionally, all custodians, maintainers, grounds personnel, mechanics , and IT Staff members are to report for their regular shifts. All transportation personnel are to report at 8 am to meet with our transportation supervisor.

Please know that the district has been, and will continue to properly cleanse and sanitize our facilities, buses and school buildings, including classroom desks, handrails, doorknobs and other communal areas.

We will communicate the next steps moving forward in the latter part of the afternoon on Tuesday, March 17, 2020.

I wish to thank the staff, students, and our community for their continued support and understanding during these challenging times. As always, the health and safety of students, staff and families remains our top priority.

Sincerely,
Edward A. Salina, Jr., Ed.D.,
Superintendent
