Dr. Joseph Netto, a 13-year resident of Plainedge, has been a School Psychologist for over 15 years and an adjunct professor at Hofstra University and Brooklyn College where he conducts New York State-mandated training in the Dignity for All Students Act.
He is the father of two children, both of whom attend Schwarting Elementary School. Dr. Netto is a staunch advocate for students and he is committed to providing exceptional educational, social, athletic, and service-learning opportunities for all in the Plainedge School District. It is his belief that improving positive school cultures through inclusion and respect along with focusing on the mental health needs of children are paramount. Dr. Netto is excited to foster the already strong collaboration between Plainedge schools and the community.

Eastplain Student Council has been recognized as a “2024 ASCA Student Council School of Excellence” for their outstanding commitment to the four pillars of ASCA: community service student leadership, citizenship, and school spirit.
The Eastplain Student Council community service project was an “Animal Shelter Donation Drive” Eastplain scholars collected used and/or new items to donate to a local animal shelter. Student council members created posters and flyers to share with Eastplain students and families. Students brought in used/new blankets, sheets, dog beds, treats, etc. Student council members sorted the items and donated them to the Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter. A total of 179 items were donated.
They also showed school spirit through the “Coin War.” Grades competed to see which grade could bring in the most amount of coins, with the winning grade receiving a pizza party donated by a local pizzeria. $1,652.37 was raised for Rocco’s Voice for Autism, a local charity. We were pleased with the amount donated by our small school.
A big thank you goes out to Eastplain, Principal Mark Coccarelli, and Student Council Advisors Catherine Gulino and Emily Antonik for their guidance and support in working with the students.
