Yesterday, Camp Good Mourning provided a grief-support training for the Plainedge School district PPS Department, including social workers, mental health counselors, school psychologists, and guidance counselors.

With one in 11 American children experiencing the death of a parent or sibling by the age of 18 AND 92% of educators believing that childhood grief is a serious problem that deserves more attention in schools, Camp Good Mourning applauds Director of PPS Bridget Murphy and Director of Guidance Greg Wasserman for addressing the challenge head-on through a professional development training.

This training is especially important because these frontline supporters are often the first adults students turn to after a death. When they are equipped with current, compassionate, and practical grief-support tools, they can better recognize a child’s needs, respond with confidence, and create a school environment where grieving students feel understood and supported.
