Plainedge Public Schools

Dear Plainedge Families, Faculty, Students and Staff,

It is an honor to introduce myself as the new Superintendent of Schools for the Plainedge Union Free School District.

Over the past several weeks, I have had the opportunity to visit our schools, meet many members of our staff and community, and begin learning about what makes Plainedge such a special place. Every conversation has reinforced what I already believed: that Plainedge is a district filled with pride, dedicated educators, supportive families, and outstanding students. I am truly grateful for the warm welcome I have already received.

I would like to thank the Board of Education for the opportunity to serve this incredible community. I am excited to begin working alongside our students, staff, families, and community members as we continue to build on the district’s many strengths.

I would like to thank Ms. Carol Muscarella, who has done such amazing work as Interim Superintendent and spent many hours with me to make this transition as smooth as possible.   Her wisdom and efforts over this past school year have given us all a tremendous core to launch from in the upcoming year!

As I begin this role, my first priority is to listen, learn, and build relationships. I believe the best decisions are made when people work together, and I look forward to hearing your ideas, learning about your experiences, and getting to know our school community.

Throughout my career, I have believed that schools should challenge students to achieve their personal best while also helping them grow into kind, confident, and thoughtful young people. Every decision we make should keep students at the center of our work, and that will always be my focus.

I have already seen firsthand the meaning of Plainedge Pride. It is evident in our classrooms, our schools, and throughout the community. I am excited to become part of that tradition and to work together to ensure every student has the opportunity to succeed.

In the coming days, I will be sharing dates for several informal summer “Meet and Greet” opportunities throughout the community.   I hope you will join me for one of these gatherings so we can get to know one another, share ideas, and begin building the strong partnerships that are so important to our students’ success. Summer is a busy time for all of us so these opportunities will also take place in the fall.

I hope you are enjoying a wonderful summer. I look forward to meeting many more of you in the weeks and months ahead, and I am excited for a fantastic school year.

Let’s Go Plainedge!

Sincerely,

Dr. Z
